Swanton, Nebraska

Swanton was founded in 1884, not as Swanton but Morris, until the Postal Authorities found there was another town of that name. The coming of the railroad influenced the actual placement of the town, before that the town was 1 1/2 miles from its present location. Since then the population rose to a height of 285 in 1910, and its lowest in 1980 of 131. Swanton is located in the middle of a triangle on a Nebraska map between Crete, Fairbury and Beatrice. It is a small community full of family values and community pride.

Although small, this quiet village is a warm and friendly place to live. It has a Bank, Post Office, Grocery Store, Grain Elevator with gas pumps and LP gas for home heating. There are also a Beauty Shop and a Barber Shop, a Restaurant \ Bar, a Car Wash, Fruit Acreage, Artists and Crafters, an Antique \ Furniture Refinisher, Antique Sellers and Hunters and a Desktop Publisher, as well as being the home of many local farmers.
